Mel Gibson's Cluster Bomb
(Conspiracy Nation, 05/28/08) – In July 2006 Israel Defense Force (IDF) fired at least one million cluster bombs in Lebanon. Israel unleashed an astonishing blitzkrieg upon Lebanon. Worldwide, observers were stunned by the ferocity of the attack. Israel's Prime Minister at the time was Ehud Olmert.
Also in July 2006, with the background of cluster bombs obliterating Lebanon, Mel Gibson fell off the wagon and said some hurtful things.
But Mel Gibson never cluster bombed anyone.
Guess which news item got all the attention: (a) cluster bombing of Lebanon, or (b) Mel Gibson's verbal tirade?
If you picked “b”, then you get a gold star. Yes, it's true. The USA newsfakers paid scant attention to the cluster bombing of Lebanon and focused massively on Mel Gibson's human failings.
The number of cluster bombs fired by Israel comes from a report in the Haaretz news media. (“IDF Commander: We Fired More Than A Million Cluster Bombs In Lebanon,” by Meron Rappaport. Dec. 9, 2006). "What we did was insane and monstrous,” stated the head of an IDF rocket unit, “we covered entire towns in cluster bombs.”
So it is ironic that today, at a time when Ehud “Cluster Bombs” Olmert faces disgrace in another matter, news arrives that over “100 nations have reached an agreement on a treaty which would ban current designs of cluster bombs.” (“Cluster bomb ban treaty approved,” BBC News, May 28, 2008)
But some of the world's main producers and stockpilers, reports BBC, oppose the ban on cluster bombs. One of those nations which want the ban “watered down” is Israel, presided over still by Ehud “Cluster Bombs” Olmert.
However “Cluster Bombs” Olmert himself now is caught up in a scandal involving “stacks of cash” from a New York businessman. (“Israeli Prime Minister Olmert faces increasingly precarious tenure,” by Ilene R. Prusher. Christian Science Monitor, May 29, 2008 edition)
In November of 2006, after the cluster bombs had been tested on hapless Lebanon, Ehud Olmert bluntly stated that the world has "reached the pivotal moment of truth regarding Iran." Ironically, almost two years after the blitzkrieg against Lebanon, Olmert may be facing his own “moment of truth” coincidental with a ban on cluster bombs.
