Emotional Plague Grips U.S.

(Conspiracy Nation, 7/22/04) -- Wilhelm Reich, M.D. described what he called an "emotional plague" which kept humanity from behaving rationally. It is sort of an armored way of thinking, which manifests as a preferral to avoid facing the truth, thought Reich.

Born in 1897, Reich graduated from the University of Vienna Medical School in 1922. He was forced to flee Nazi Germany in 1933 and eventually migrated to New York, and then to Maine. Reich came into conflict with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and was imprisoned. He died a federal prisoner in 1957.

"It is the basic evasion of the essential," wrote Reich, "which is the problem of man. This evasion and evasiveness is a part of the deep structure of man. The running away from the exit out of the trap is the result of this structure of man. Man fears and hates the exit from the trap. He guards cruelly against any attempt at finding the exit. This is the great riddle." [1]

He Guards Cruelly Against Any Attempt At Finding The Exit

Guarding cruelly against attempts to find the exit would include, for example, a "chilling effect" on freedom of speech evinced in recent occurrences such as

"Whoever moves toward the exit, or whoever points toward it is declared crazy or a criminal or a sinner to burn in Hell." [2]

Whoever Points Toward The Exit Is Declared Crazy

Some fine people, such as Sherman Skolnick, Kenn Thomas, and Oliver Stone, know full well the barrage of ridicule by which the Cruel Guards of the Exit attack those attempting to point the way out of the trap. This routine drumbeat of ridicule of dissent has now escalated, unfortunately, to an "Un-American Activities" part two, in which those who do more than wave the flag and shout Hurrah have their patriotism questioned.

The Conspiracy Nation editor endured one such attack not long ago. The telephone rang at 4 o'clock in the morning and this groggy-from-sleep editor  groped for a response to an anonymous caller who stated, "I can't believe that you're an American."

A further chilling effect upon Conspiracy Nation occurred last week when unknown forces quietly pulled the plug against posting privileges at the Rumor Mill News web site. This happened consequent to posting Skolnick Insists: "Mass Murderer Became President." (www.shout.net/~bigred/Skol0714.htm)

"Atmosphere Of Fear" In The U.S.

Flags are waving at various retail establishments, especially at gas stations where the flags are enormous. These U.S. flags are not hauled down at night nor during inclement weather, contrary to proper procedure.

Who disrespects the flag more, retailers who stop at nothing to improve sales, or conspiracy theorists who question authority?

What is a good citizen? One who follows orders, like in Nazi Germany, or one who thinks for themselves, in a nation where sovereignty resides in the people?

Elton John (yes a "canary in the coal mine") expressed dismay (as did Thomas Wolfe regarding Germany in 1936) about what he called "an atmosphere of fear" in the U.S., "an atmosphere in America right now that is deadly." (Wolfe called it "a sickness of the soul.") Stern, Ronstadt, and The Dixie Chicks are our "canaries in the coal mine." A poison of "Holier Than Thou" supposed patriotism is seeping in. This poison is deadly to all Americans, even those you disagree with.
