Herb Ellis/Ray Brown Sextet: Hot Tracks
(Concord, 1975)
One of several recordings Herb Ellis and Ray Brown collaborated on for the Concord Label in the mid-70s. Plas Johnson appears on tenor saxophone. (Out of print, but still obtainable used!)

Count Basie: Breakfast Dance and Barbeque
(Roulette, 1959)
Recorded at a disc jockey convention, this concert began at 2am. If anything, the late start loosens the band up, and the results are consistently swinging. Edison's solos are highlights (he's a guest on the concerts). Other notable cuts are "In a Mellow Tone", "Who Me", and Thad Jones' "Counter Block".

The Deacon (Jones) / Cute (Hefti) / In a Mellow Tone (Ellington) / No Moon at All (Evans/Mann) / Cherry Red (Johnson/Turner) / Roll 'Em Pete (Johnson/Turner) / Cherry Point (Hefti) / Splanky (Hefti) / Counter Block (Jones) / Li'l Darlin' (Hefti) / Who, Me? (Foster) / Five O'Clock in the Morning (Williams) / Every Day I Have the Blues (Memphis Slim) / Back to the Apple (Basie/Foster) / Let's Have a Taste (Young) / Moten Swing (Moten/Moten) / Hallelujah, I Love Her So (Charles) / One O'Clock Jump (Basie)

Oscar Peterson and Harry "Sweets" Edison
(Pablo/OJC, 1974)
The third in Oscar Peterson's "Trumpet Kings" duo series. Peterson and Edison are perfect foils for one another -- Edison's solos are pared down to his own, personal vocabulary; Peterson is the consummate technician. Many great standards.

Easy Living / Days of Wine and Roses / Gee Baby, Ain't I Good to You / Basie / Mean to Me / Signify / Willow Weep for Me / The Man I Love / You Go to My Head
