Chet Baker: Chet Baker In New York
(Riverside, 1958)
Chet takes on the East Coast with Johnny Griffin on tenor sx, Al Haig on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums. Excellent hard bop, and an interesting departure from the cool-school material that makes up most of Baker's discography.

Fair Weather (Golson) / Polka Dots and Moonbeams (Burke/VanHeusen) / Hotel 49 (Marshall) / Solar (Davis) / Blue Thoughts (Golson) / When Lights Are Low (Carter/Williams) / Soft Winds (Goodman/Henderson)

Chet Baker: The Most Important Jazz Album of 1964/1965
(Roulette, 1964)
Baker's first American release upon returning from Europe in the early sixties finds him with refreshed chops and a new axe -- the flugelhorn. The front line is filled out by Phil Urso on tenor sax, and the session features several compositions and arrangements by Tadd Dameron. This recording, along with the Prestige sessions that immediately followed, were some of Baker's last significant recordings before 1970.

Soultrane / Walkin' / Tadd's Delight / Whatever Possessed Me / Retsim B / Gnid / Ann, Wonderful One / Mating Call / Margerine / Flight to Jordan

Chet Baker: Lonely Star
(Prestige)
One of three CDs comprising the output of the Chet Baker Quintet on the Prestige label, featuring Baker on flugelhorn, George Coleman on tenor sax, Kirk Lightsey on piano, Herman Wright on bass, and Roy Brooks on drums.

Grade 'A' Gravy (Bruce) / Serenity (Bruce) / Fine And Dandy (Jones/Swift) / Have You Met Miss Jones? (Hart/Rodgers) / Rearin' Back (Carpenter) / So Easy (Dameron) / Madison Avenue (Bruce) / Lonely Star (Bruce) / Wee, Too (Bruce) / Tan Gaugin (Bruce)

Jim Hall: Concierto
(CTI/Sony-Columbia, 1975)
One of Baker's 'comeback' albums in the American market, this time as a sideman to guitarist Jim Hall with Sir Roland Hanna (piano), Ron Carter (bass), Steve Gadd (drums), and Paul Desmond (alto sax). This album is considered by some to be the best of the CTI label's recording catalog.

You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To (Porter) / Two's Blues (Hall) / The Answer Is Yes (Hall) / Concierto de Aranjuez (Rodrigo) / Rock Skippin' (Ellington/Strayhorn) / Unfinished Business (Carter/Hall) / You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To [Alt. take] (Porter) / The Answer Is Yes [Alt. take] (Hall) / Rock Skippin' [Alt. take] (Ellington/Strayhorn) /
