How to set up PPP using Trumpet Winsock 3.0a with
Shouting Ground Technologies

Assumptions Made

Note: Shouting Ground does not recommend using Trumpet Winsock 3.0a for Win95 Dialup-Networking. Use the built-in Dialup-Networking facilities.

What You Need

The latest version of the Trumpet Winsock Protocol Stack is twsk30a.exe. This is a self-extracting archive. Download it or put it on your hard-drive and run it. It will extract a number of files; one of which is called INSTALL.EXE. Run this program.

During installation, you will be asked where you want the software installed, whether or not you want to disable any other Winsock stacks it finds, as well as whether you want to go ahead and configure Trumpet Winsock 3.0a. You will also be asked for the name of a new Trumpet Winsock Program Group. You can create a new one, or place the Trumpet Winsock applications in a pre-existing Program Group. Some changes will also be made to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. The Trumpet Winsock Installer will show you the proposed changes. You can create a backup AUTOEXEC.BAT if necessary.

Finally, you will be asked if you want to configure Trumpet Winsock. Click "Yes" to continue on to the setup screens.

First you will be shown the Trumpet Winsock License Agreement. Please read this agreement; Trumpet Winsock is shareware and carries a nominal registration fee.

Main Setup Window

Here you will find the basic TCP/IP settings for Trumpet Winsock. They should be as follows:

Domain suffix shout.net

IMPORTANT: Notice the space between the two DNS servers.

Next click on the "Dialler settings..." button.

Next click on the "Modem Settings..." button.

Modem Profile

This section is where you can set up special configurations for your particular make and model of modem. In most cases, you shouldn't have to make any changes to this screen. On most modems,
&f
Reset the modem to the first factory preset.
&c1
Turn DCD (Data Carrier Detect) on while carrier is present.
You can insert more settings if you need to disable a particular protocol or compression algorithm. Check your modem manual for details.

Couldn't open modem dialog. Use reset string Checked, with "z"
Init string &f&c1
Dial string dt
Hangup string h
Click "OK" and click on the "Server Settings..." button from the previous dialog.

Server Profile

This section sets up how Trumpet Winsock interacts with our terminal-server once your modem has made a connection.
Couldn't open server dialog. Username prompt login:
Password prompt word:
Command prompt >
SLIP command [Leave blank]
SLIP response [Leave blank]

That's it!!!

You should be ready to connect to the Internet. Depending on how you've setup the Automatic-login settings, you can either force a login by choosing "Login" from the Dialler menu, or Trumpet Winsock may start itself automatically if a network application tries to make a connection of some kind.

Legalities

Trumpet Winsock is not free. You are free to try it out for 30 days, but after that time-period, Trumpet Winsock will disable itself and no longer run. To register Trumpet Winsock, send $25 to the authors' US address:
	Trumpet Software International
	21660 East Copley Drive
	Suite 340
	Diamond Bar, CA
	91765
An order form can be found by choosing "Contents" under the "Help" menu (all the way to the right-hand side of the menu bar of the main Trumpet Winsock window.) Click "Registration Details". There should be an Order Form which you can print out and submit along with your check. We don't recommend you register over the Internet. The authors will send back a registration username and password that will disable the time-lock.
