How to set up ISDN PPP under Windows 95 with
Shouting Ground
Technologies
This procedure assumes that you have a Modem installed and
properly configured. If not, go into the Control Panels and open
the "Add New Hardware" control panel. My Computer->Control Panel->Add
New Hareware)
1. Install the Dial-up Adapter
If anything needs to be installed, you will need your Windows 95
install disks/CDROM.
- First see if it's already installed:
Double-click the My Computer icon on your Desktop. If it is
installed, you will find an icon labeled Dial-up Networking inside.
If so, skip to Section 2.
- Open the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel (My
Computer->Control Panels->Add/Remove Programs).
- Select the "Windows Setup" tab.
- Select "Communications" and click on "Details" button.
- Check "Dial-Up Networking".
- Click "OK"; you may be asked for disks.
- Click "OK" again; you will be asked to restart.
Do so.
When rebooting, Windows 95 will ask you for a name and password,
something it probably wasn't doing before. Hit Enter to get past this.
2. Add TCP/IP support
- Open "Network" control panel (My Computer->Control
Panels->Network)
- If there is a network component labeled
Dial-up Adapter -> TCP/IP proceed to Section 3.
- From completing Section 1, there should be a network
component labeled "Dial-up Adapter".
- Click "Add" button.
- Select "Protocol" from list of component types.
- Choose "Microsoft" from the list of manufacturers.
- Choose "TCP/IP" from the list of Network Protocols.
- Click "OK"; you may be asked for disks.
- Click "OK"; restart if necessary.
3. Configure TCP/IP
- Open "Network" control panel (My Computer->Control
Panels->Network).
- Select "Dial-up Adapter" from the list of network
components; then click on the "Properties" button.
- Select the "Bindings" tab.
- From the list, "TCP/IP" should be the only
protocol checked.
- Click "OK" and select "TCP/IP" from list of network
components and click "Properties".
- Select the "DNS Configuration" tab.
- "Enable DNS" should be checked.
- Under "Hostname", enter your username.
- Under "Domain, enter "shout.net".
- Add the following server IP addresses to the DNS
Server Search Order:
- 66.209.192.5
- 66.209.192.15
- That should be the only changes you need to make under
TCP/IP Properties.
- Click "OK" to return to "Network" control panel.
- Click "OK"; restart if necessary.
Here is an example of a completed DNS Configuration:
4. Final Configuration
- Start "Dial-Up Networking".
(My Computer->Dial-Up Networking)
- Double-click on "Make New Connection".
- Fill in a name for the connection (e.g.,
Shouting Ground), choose a modem, and click on "NEXT" button.
- Enter "351-0696" for the phone number.
Area-code (217) is unnecessary, unless you're really out of the area.
Click "NEXT". Click "FINISH".
- From the "Dial-Up Networking" window, select
your new connection with the right mouse button. Choose "Properties".
- Click on "Server Type" button.
- "Software Compression" should be the ONLY "Avanced
option" checked.
- "TCP/IP" should be the ONLY "Allowed network protocol."
The final result should look the following:
Click "OK".
5. Making a Connection
- From the "Dial-Up Networking" window,
double-click on your new connection.
- Type in your PAP name and password in the fields shown.
Click on the "Connect" button.
- Allow Windows to establish the connection...
- If all goes well, you should see a connected box.
If you select Details you should see: Protocols: TCP/IP. If you see
"Protocols: None", something didn't go right.
