How to set up PPP under Windows NT 4.0 with
Shouting Ground Technologies

This procedure assumes that you have a modem installed and properly configured. If not, go into the Control Panels and open the "Modem" control panel. It will prompt you to install a modem. (My Computer->Control Panel->Modems)

Setting up Dial-Up Networking

Dial-Up Networking is installed by default, usually. If it is not, double-clicking Dial-Up Networking in My Computer will begin the installation process.

  • The Remote Access Window will appear. Choose your modem in this window.

  • Click on Network. Make sure only TCP/IP is selected.

  • Click Continue.

  • Say Yes when your computer asks if you wish to restart.

Making a new Phone Book entry

  • Your NT login window will now have Use Dial-Up Networking check box. This lets you know that Dial-Up Networking is installed, but you still need to configure a dialing entry.

  • After logging into your computer as normal, double-click My Computer and double-click Dial-Up Networking. Dial-Up Networking will then say to you "No Phone Book entries." Click OK.

  • Name the new entry "Shout" (or whatever you wish to call it)

  • Check I am calling the Internet

  • Check Send my plain text password if that's the only way to connect

  • Enter 351-4020, which is our dialup number. Then click Next.

  • Click Finish.

  • Now you have the option to Dial or Close the Phone Book.

Editing a Phone Book Entry

  • Open Phone Book entry by double-clicking Dial-Up Networking inside My Computer.

  • Under Phone Book entry to dial: choose Shout (or whatever you named the entry)

  • Click More. Choose Edit entry and modem properties.

  • At the top of this window, click on the Server tab.

  • Make sure that TCP/IP and Enable software compression and Enable PPP LCP extensions are the only boxes checked.

Configuring the TCP/IP Settings

  • Click the button TCP/IP Settings...

  • The only things you'll need to enter on this screen would be the Primary DNS and Secondary DNS. You can leave the rest alone. Primary DNS = 66.209.192.5 and Secondary DNS = 66.209.192.15 Leave the WINS settings blank.

Now whenever you try to open a web browser or any other program that requires the Internet, Windows NT will automatically produce a Dial-Up window. From there just choose the Shout Phone Book entry and it will dial us up and you'll be on your way.
