How to set up your account to use our spam filtering software:

The idea behind our spam filter is to accumulate samples of both junk mail and valid mail into two separate mailboxes, on which our filter will train itself. In order to use the filter you will need to create two folders to store this mail. A folder named Train will be used to hold samples of junk mail while a folder named Clean will be used to hold samples of valid mail. Once you have a good number of sample messages in these mailboxes we can train the filter on your account. From then on, any junk mail caught by the filter will be placed into a folder named Spam, which is automatically created for you. Whenever any junk mail makes it past the filter and into your Inbox, simply move that message into the Train folder and request another filter training. The more the filter is trained the more effective it becomes!

To get started, follow the instructions below:

1) Before your open your POP mail client, log into Webmail using your Shouting Ground username and password.

2) Click the Folders link on the top of the main Webmail page.

3) Create a folder named Train as illustrated in the screenshot below:

4) Create a second folder named Clean as shown below:

5) Click the Inbox link on the left hand side to return to your mail index

6) In the drop down menu select the Train mailbox.

7) Place a checkmark next to each message you regard as junk mail, then click the Move button to move these messages into the Train folder.

8) In the dropdown menu select the Clean mailbox

.

9) Place a checkmark next to each message you regard as valid mail, then click the Move button to move these messages into the Clean folder.

10) Each time you move new messages into either the Train or Clean folders, request a spam filter training by calling SGT at 217-351-7921 or by simply E-mailing us at admin@shout.net. After the training is finished you may delete the messages in the Train folder and move (not delete!) the messages in the Clean folder back into your Inbox so that you may download them with your regular mail program. We will notify you once the filter is finished being retrained.

11) Check your Spam folder to see all the messages that are being caught by the filter. These messages can be automatically deleted at your request, so be sure to check this folder to ensure no valid mail is being filtered out. If a valid message is filtered into the Spam folder, move it to the Clean folder and request a retraining.
