Symbolism Of The Bear

Nothing happens by accident. Rocky the Bear's turning against his handler can be read as an omen of some sort. But what does the omen mean?

The Rocky u-turn in behavior happened on the same day as the Pennsylvania primary. There, Hillary Clinton had been evoking a “Rocky” theme, based on the popular film about the has-been boxer who made a comeback. Hillary “Rocky” Clinton has turned on handler Mark Penn and is now “blue collar.” That is one interpretation.

But Rocky the Bear could also symbolize a “bear market” of some sort, not necessarily in stocks. The tamed-turned-savage bear would symbolize a massive economic force. Ben Bernanke and the “Federal” Reserve have been the trainer, doing chalk-board calculations and interest tinkering to mystify the bear into submission. Then, “for no apparent reason,” the bear decides, “I'm in charge here.”

Or Rocky the Bear could mean the Russian bear. Russia had been tamed, it seems, by hopes of free market benefits. But the trainer, the West, kept privatizing and stealing Russian resources. Its fences around the Russian bear multiplied and grew more irksome. One day, the furious bear turned on its handlers.

Or, Rocky the Bear may mean “all of the above.”

Another sign and portent was the Midwest earthquake of about 5.2 on the scale which occurred last Friday, April 18. On Wednesday evening, April 16, mysterious lights and booms were witnessed in Kokomo, Indiana, near the quake's epicenter. “Police switchboards in Howard and Tipton counties were inundated by calls after residents saw bright lights just before a loud sound like a sonic boom Wednesday night,” reported Rick Callahan of the Associated Press. Strange lights and visions are typically paired with momentous events, such as earthquakes. In 1629, near Rome, a deep ravine suddenly opened in the ground. “A terrible and fetid stink emanates from the crack,” wrote a contemporary observer, “and great noises can be heard deep down.” Only a few days later, a “strange sight” was seen in the sky. The same observer, Father Jose de Calasanz, witnessed “a circle in the air, almost the size of the whole of Rome, greyish-blue in color with four huge globes, brighter than the circle, and the centres of these four globes were rainbow-coloured. The spectacle lasted for an hour and nearly all the inhabitants of Rome saw it.” Coincident with these events, “a horrible prediction” arrived from Germany. (“Fallen Order”, by Karen Liebreich. In Fatima, located about 86 miles north of Lisbon, Portugal, a “miracle of the sun” occurred in 1917. A “flat disk” spun toward the Earth in a zig-zag pattern. There were strong disturbances in the Earth's magnetosphere. 1917 was also a peak year for sunspot activity. The Fatima plateau “is crisscrossed by numerous faults of a northwest-southeast orientation.” Seismic activity is associated with the Fatima puzzle. In the Arabic language, “Fatima” signifies “mistress” or “lady.” And true to its namesake, a mysterious lady described as wearing a white skirt “all gold and knee-length, the gold was the straps, which laced around, and on the tips of the straps” appeared to three children. The Fatima visitations of 1917 were soon followed by the deadly, worldwide, “Spanish Influenza.” Of note is reports that the latest flu vaccine has been ineffective. (Or do the flu vaccines actually cause the mysterious flu, which arrives like clockwork and right after vaccinated persons become carriers of the malady?)

Another recent portent has been Pope Benedict XVI's prayer, on Adolph Hitler's birthday, April 20, at the high holy 9/11 ground-zero site. A Reuters report dated April 10, 2008, by Philip Pullella, advised that Benedict would utter, in part, “Turn to your way of love those whose hearts and minds are consumed with hatred.” Pullella headlined his Reuters report, “Pope Ground Zero prayer seeks terrorists' redemption.” Interpretations vary: Does the Pope mean hate-filled Americans post-9/11 or foreigners who hate America? “As we read it, the structure of the prayer strongly implies that Benedict is referring to terrorists abroad,” comments one analyst. And finally, a “grizzled police sergeant” has been “dogging the trail” of Ben Bernanke. Is the grizzled police sergeant about to turn “grizzly”, as in Rocky the (Grizzly) Bear (see above)? Paul Volcker, former “Fed” chieftain, has dared to “break ranks” and publicly criticize Bernanke. Senator Chris Dodd looks somewhat like a grizzly bear.
