-- Uh-oh! Our little friend wanted to outdo Greatest Generation, so he awoke the
sleeping dragon of the Crusades!
But now he doesn't know, How do you
put the Crusades back to sleep?! Where is the old sorceror who knew how to put the genie back
in the bottle? Maybe we could all close our eyes, and pretend platoons
of zombies have not been unleashed? Where is that old book of the
sorceror's magic? What does it say about the posterity of Ishmael? Ahh! Here is that old book. Let's see... What does it say? |
The Kaaba, also called the Caaba, means "the cube." Back around
the time of Adam and Eve, a meteorite fell from the sky. Descendants of
Adam venerated the Kaaba. "Pre-Islamic Meccans used it as a central
shrine housing their many idols, most notable of which were al-Lat,
al-Uzza, and Manat, collectively known as al-Gharaniq
or the Daughters of God, and Hubal,
a martial deity." ("Kaaba," The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition.
2001-2005)
Okay, so this Kaaba was connected with Hubal, a martial deity, in
other words a god of war. A mosque was built around this Kaaba, and it
is in Mecca. And Mecca is in Saudi Arabia. According to the Koran,
Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Ishmael built the first shrine of the
Kaaba. ("Kaaba", Wikipedia reference)
Sarah, wife of Abraham (Ibrahim), was sterile. She presented Abraham
with a concubine, her servant Hagar. Hagar bore Ishmael, first-born son
of Abraham. Later, in a strange circumstance, Sarah became fertile and
gave birth to Isaac. Ishmael was the eldest son, but when Abraham died
the inheritance went to Isaac. (Oxford Companion To The Bible,
Edited by Bruce M. Metzger & Michael D. Coogan. ISBN: 0-19-504645-5)
The Arabs, posterity of Ishmael,
"pretend that, in the division of the earth, the rich and fertile
climates were assigned to the other branches of the human family; and
that the posterity of the outlaw Ishmael might recover, by fraud or
force, the portion of inheritance of which he had been unjustly
deprived." (Gibbon, Edward. Decline
and Fall of the Roman Empire, vol. 5)
So hostility between Jews (Isaac) and Arabs (Ishmael) boils down to
an inheritance dispute?
From Mecca to the Euphrates, the Arabian tribes were confounded by
the Greeks and Latins under the general appellation of Saracens -- in other words, "Sarah's Kin." (Gibbon, op. cit.)
Saraceni mulieres aiunt in eos
regnare. (Footnote, Gibbon, vol. 5, ch. 50) Sarah's Kin (Saraceni) would even let women
reign amongst them, in the long-ago times.
The famous story of how Abraham was called upon to sacrifice Isaac
is disputed. Ibrahim was called upon to sacrifice Ishmael, it is
claimed. "From Japan to Peru the use of sacrifice has universally
prevailed... The life of man is the most precious oblation to deprecate
a public calamity... A parent who drags his son to the altar exhibits
the most painful and sublime effort of fanaticism." (Gibbon, op. cit.)
To sacrifice a son is a most painful and sublime effort of
fanaticism. Sacrifice of the suicide bombers is like Ibrahim prepared
to sacrifice Ishmael? Where is that old sorceror? He would know.
The founder of Islam, Mohammed, believed he was "commanded to propagate his religion by the
sword, to destroy the monuments of idolatry, and, without
regarding the sanctity of days or months, to pursue the unbelieving
nations of the earth." (Gibbon, op. cit.)
"The sword," says Mohammed, "is the key of heaven and of hell; a
drop of blood shed in the cause of God, a night spent in arms, is of
more avail than two months of fasting or prayer." (Gibbon, op. cit.)
Said one Muslim Caliph: "Ye Christian dogs, you know your option;
the Koran, the tribute, or the sword. We
are a people whose delight is in war rather than in peace."
(Gibbon, op. cit.)
This is a scarey enemy. But Mickey Mouse, the Sorceror's Apprentice,
wasn't thinking about how to stop the magic. He was just playing around
while the Sorceror was gone. Now the zombies are on the march. Where is
the Sorceror? How do you put the genie back in the bottle?
