The Watchers & The Grail

For their Prophet, the Sabians “chose Hermes, whom they identified with the Quranic Idris and the biblical Enoch.” [2]

St. Augustine did not think the Book of Enoch ought to be included in the Bible: It was “too old.” The Books of Hermes, like the Book of Enoch, predate the Old Testament authors. “Hermes” may be a composite of several authors, one of whom may have been Enoch.

Enoch spent hidden years with the “angels.” The Ethiopian book of Enoch (1 Enoch) includes mention of the “Watchers.” Fragments of an Aramaic Enoch, found amongst the Dead Sea Scrolls, mention the Giants, offspring of the Watchers. The “Son of Man” is identified not with Jesus, but with Enoch. The Hebrew Enoch (3 Enoch) has Ishmael meeting the Archangel Metatron, “who informs Ishmael that he, Metatron, is really Enoch...” [3]

The Ethiopic translation tells about Enoch's activities, which “had to do with the Watchers.” The giants, “produced from the spirits and flesh,” “born from men and from the holy watchers,” began to be slaughtered. From their flesh, evil spirits went forth. (1 Enoch, chapters 15 and 16). The women of the Watchers went astray and became sirens. (1 Enoch 19: 2)

King Nebuchadnezzar was troubled by a dream. “I saw in the visions of my head as I lay in bed, and behold, a watcher, a holy one, came down from heaven... The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, the holy ones...” (Book of Daniel 4: 13-17)

In Parzifal, Wolfram von Eschenbach described a celestial Gral (Grail), guarded by Templars. “When Lucifer and the Trinity began to war with each other, those who did not take sides, worthy, noble angels, had to descend to earth to that Stone which is forever incorruptible.” Those Neutral Angels could be the Watchers. Julius Evola (1898-1974), a controversial figure, begins Revolt Against The Modern World by insisting “there is a visible and tangible dimension and, prior to and beyond it, an invisible and intangible dimension that is the support, the source, and true life of the former.” Bridging the two worlds is the Pontifax, meaning “builder of bridges.” Like Jacob's Ladder, the Pontifax is the intermediary between the two dimensions. Successors of Enoch were Methuselah, Nir, and Melchizedek. [3] According to Evola (op. cit.), “Tradition upholds the superiority of Melchizedek's royal priesthood over Abraham's.” In the middle ages, the mysterious Prester John evoked somewhat the figure of Melchizedek, who “declared that neither Christianity nor Islam know any longer which is the true religion,” in medieval allegory.

The Grail is depicted by Wolfram von Eschenbach as a “Luciferian” stone, fallen from heaven. “The Grail is first of all a lapis ex coelis because, according to Wolfram, it was originally brought down to earth by a host of angels.” [4] These would have been the Neutral Angels, the Watchers. A footnote to Evola's The Mystery Of The Grail (Translated from the Italian and published by Inner Traditions, 1997), recalls “the Arab saga concerning the black stone of Kaaba, given by Gabriel to Adam; this stone, which was taken back to heaven after the flood, was subsequently returned to earth by Gabriel...”

Theorized is that the Grail represents a Pontifax, a bridge between the phenomenal and noumenal worlds. The Watchers once routinely communicated with the material world. Perhaps they still do, but the awareness of this has been lost, to an extent. Evola attributes this to rising “gynecocratic (matriarchal) views that must be regarded as residues of the cycle of the 'lunar' civilization.” The lunar civilization is also known as the Silver Age, which was preceded by the solar civilization, also known as the Golden Age. The present recrudescence of a gynecocracy takes place amidst the background of Kali-Yuga, the Iron Age, now drawing to a close.
