Image: Aftermath of Khost suicide bombing. Apologies if link has expired.(Melchizedek Communique, MC010410) Think of the accelerating Middle East tension not as war, but as a jobs stimulus. If we were to withdraw, those now-employed soldiers would be back here in the U.S., looking for jobs. Already the unemployed labor pool is immense. If there was peace and the troops returned, that would increase the unemployment numbers.

This is not far-fetched. Other writers have referred to the "permanent war economy" of the United States.

The actual number of unemployed here is greater even than during the Great Depression. True, the percentages are not as bad. But if you just count the number out of work, it is more than during the "Big D."

So be glad that our brave men and women in uniform fight not just the terrorists, but unemployment as well.

A sad situation of December 30, 2009, when 8 US operatives died in a suicide bombing at Forward Operating Base Chapman, near the eastern Afghan city of Khost and the border with Pakistan, has a silver lining: jobs were created. Those of the dead included 7 CIA agents. Outside the CIA HQ, a sign appears: Help Wanted: 7 CIA agents.

A general job hunting technique is to read the daily obituaries and find out where the deceased had worked. Then, while others are at the funeral, you can be a step ahead and apply for the dead person's job.

Don't think of it as "death." Think of it as a jobs stimulus.

And to continue the positive thinking, even the suicide bomber at Khost created employment. Whoever that terrorist was, Germany's die Tageszeitung reports he may have been a member of the Afghan military. So we are hiring Afghans as soldiers, and then some of them could be actually terrorists in disguise. Then they blow themselves up and create new job opportunities. So do not be gloomy. "Don't worry, be happy," as "Poppy" Bush used to say. And support our troops: they are helping to create jobs.
