(Melchizedek Communique, MC083110) In the old Crusader times, circa 1098 Anno Domini, enthusiasm was stalled at Antioch. But the spirits of the Crusaders were "revived by a visible sign, the seasonable and splendid discovery of the Holy Lance." The current whereabouts of this Holy Lance are unknown, but it may now be in the possession of Glenn Beck, focal point of a recent massive assembly in Washington, DC. (Background: "Idolaters Plan 'Sacred' Ceremony", http://www.shout.net/~bigred/mc082410.html)
The studies of the Holy Lance is a field in itself. One Marius Kjørmo, for example, wrote an entire Master's Thesis on the subject. Various books specializing in the Holy Lance have been written. The first of the more modern publications was Spear of Destiny by Trevor Ravenscroft which first appeared in the 1970s. (Ravenscroft's book has since been shown to have flaws.) Other titles include: Secrets of the Holy Lance, by Jerry E. Smith & George Piccard (Adventures Unlimited Press, 2005); and The Secret of the Spear, by Alec MacLellan (Souvenir Press, 2005).
The Marius Kjørmo Master's Thesis ("The Holy Lance of Antioch", available as of this writing as a pdf file on Internet) describes how not only were the struggles at Antioch a pivotal moment for the expedition, it is also here that we first encounter stories of visions which would subsequently influence crusading politics. (Footnote 4 explains, "The division between religion and politics is of course a modern invention; however, the focus of this thesis will not primarily be on the interchangeable relationship between the two, rather how a perceived relic fits into a political world so dominated by religion.")
As for the story of how the Holy Lance was first uncovered, neither the contemporary sources nor modern historians agree on what actually happened, asserts Kjørmo.
One contemporary of the purported miracle in Antioch was Raymond d'Aguilers who recorded the protective power of the Holy Lance. "Superior in numbers they neither wounded anyone nor shot arrows against us, no doubt, because of the protection of the Holy Lance," he claimed. (Cited in Kjørmo)
A counterfeit Holy Lance ceremony is to be held on September 11th in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. A fringe cult of 9/11 devotees will worship their myth of "The nineteen Arabs with box-cutter knives." Hymns will be sung celebrating the legend of "Let's roll." (See "Idolaters Plan 'Sacred' Ceremony", op. cit.)
But the True Lance seems now to be in the possession of Glenn Beck. And as long as Beck carries the power of the Holy Lance, the infidels cannot harm him.
