volunteer Form

The GEO, your union, is what you make it. Help make it strong! Become an active member today. Strong member participation is how we won our union election and a strong first contract. Look at the options below and let us know how you can help by checking the appropriate boxes! (Feel free to choose more than one!) Make sure to let us know who you are by filling in the rest of the form and sending it by hitting the "Submit" button. Thanks!

Talk with other graduate employees about the GEO

pointer The most important way for you to contribute! This usually entails office visits to members and potential members with the goal of building relationships, answering questions, and fostering commitment to the union through one-on-one conversations. First time volunteers will be trained and paired with experienced organizers. No experience necessary.

Come to Volunteer Night

pointer Volunteer Nights are a fun way to help make the GEO strong. Come socialize with grads from diverse departments while: phonebanking, assembling informational packets, hanging posters across campus, making signs etc. Free pizza and beverages are always provided! Contact the GEO office (344-8283) for details about the next volunteer night.

Help graduate employees with grievances

pointer The Grievance Committee defends the GEO Contract by helping employees navigate the grievance procedure and lending support to them when they correspond with the University.

Help with GEO Health Care Working Group

pointer The Health Care Working Group was responsible for publishing the GEO’s survey and report on the health care needs of graduate employees. The group continues to work for improved health care for employees and their families.

Help with GEO publications

pointer The GEO needs your help getting the word out! If you are interested in helping make our newsletters, updating our website, or designing flyers, let us know.

Work on International Graduate Employee issues

pointer Many of our members are International students, and the GEO is committed to helping to address the unique concerns that they face while they are here. The current contract contains components that address International concerns like Visa problems, the SPEAK test, discrimination, health care, and the high cost of fees, but much more work needs to be done!

Join the Bargaining Commitee

pointer The Bargaining Committee researches and develops the bargaining platform for our next contract. We’ll begin negotiating with the University this Spring, and we really need more help determining the future working conditions of graduate employees.

Other:

pointer Is there something else that you are good at? A special talent that you have that you can contribute to your union? Let us know what it is and we'll let you know how you can put it to use.
