Full-Time Organizer Needed!
The Graduate Employees’ Organization, AFT Local 6300, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks a full-time organizer to assist in membership recruitment, leadership development, and contract enforcement.

Brief Description of Responsibilities
• Assist with new member organizing and recruit volunteer organizers from membership using various approaches, especially face-to-face organizing
• Help coordinate organizing strategies, contract campaigns, and grievance organizing
• Coordinate union events and recruitment activities
Preferred Qualifications
• Organizing experience, especially related to unions, higher education, or political action
• Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations, experience with international populations a plus
• Experience as a staff member in a volunteer-run organization
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
Duration: Applicants should consider this a long-term commitment (at least 2 years) with a start date in August 2006.
Compensation: Salary will be $32,000 for the first year with a substantial pay increase in the second year of employment. Comprehensive health care benefits included. GEO staff members are covered by a staff union contract.
