Meeting Number 19
Sherman, IL, February 21, 2010

Our Return to Scott's "Hall of Heroes"

Meeting #19 took place at the home of member Scott McCullar in Sherman, Illinois. The following members were fortunate enough to attend: Mark Otnes, Robert Mitchell, Bob Rodden II, Rob Findlay and Scott McCullar. We were also very honored to also have in attendance THREE potential new members including Mike Lueken, Jeff Lueken and Charlie Waugh. Hopefully, these great guys will decide to join our happy little club. Here's how the meeting "rolled out:"

THE TRIP

The weather was again cold and raining. Traveling to Sherman from Champaign-Urbana is about a 2-hour trip. Fortunately, members Rob Findlay and Mark Otnes were able to carpool and they met up with all the others at Scott's home between 12:30 and 1pm. Along the way, Rob and Mark photographed Mark's recently reacquired GIjOES (known as the "Magnificent 7") and their reactions to their first road trip in 40 years. High anticipation of a future M7 "Road Trip" slideshow resulted. If you've missed out on any of the M7's (mis)adventures, catch up on their hijinks by going HERE.

THE MEETING

As members drove up, Scott was trying to hang a sign on his mailbox, but the weather wasn't cooperating. Eventually, the drizzling rain would blur out the sign to such an extent as to be unreadable. Undeterred, we entered Scott's warm and welcoming home and began to appropriately ooh and ahh over his treasures for the next hour or so (see the "1000-word" photo above). Scott also has an extensive Star Wars and DC Superheroes collection. Simply fantastic stuff!

Activity-wise, this was a fairly routine CIGCC meeting... We yakked about Joes. We ate pizza. We showed off our newest (or oldest) acquistions. We traded stuff to each other. In other words, it was NON-STOP JOE FUN! Of course, the best thing about the day was meeting our new member Bob Rodden (see pic below) and the three potential NEW members who attended. It was great to meet them all and learn about their collections and pore over the interesting items they brought along for our "show-n-tell." All-in-all, a wonderful way to spend a cold, dreary February day in Illinois. Our sincerest thanks to Scott and his family for generously hosting and providing us with food for this meeting. You guys are the best!

Here are some photos of Meeting 19:

Bob and Mike discuss Mike's vintage ATV (what's missing and what's not).

Check it out! We found Robert Mitchell's "Mini Me" doppleganger. How cool is this?

Some of Mike's vintage items included this fantastic Spacewalk Mystery set, still in original box with original packing.
And check out his MINT-in-sleeve orange record! WOW! Mike says he's only played it a couple of times EVER.

Robert also brought some FANTASTIC custom-painted MARX horses he found on ebay. REALLY nice.
