Greetings, fellow Joe heads!

I'm Chris S. from Minnetonka, Minnesota. I've been collecting vintage GIjOEs for over 21 years now. My collection actually started back in 1988 when I unexpectedly found a box of toys up in my attic. It was just one, dusty , little cardboard box. But inside, it held childhood treasures galore. There were vintage GIjOEs, Super Joes, some Marx Best of the West and even a few Mego Superheroes! The toys turned out to be ones that I had played with as a kid, but had long ago lost up there and forgotten.

As far as the Joes go, my original blond painted hair Astronaut with foil 1-zipper suit (w/helmet) was still perfectly intact, but my vintage Deep Sea Diver had not been so lucky. After all those years up in a hot attic, his big plastic collar had split apart and his diving suit had turned all stiff and brittle. Good ol' Mike Powers was in that box, as well as my trusty, vintage Bullet Man (sadly, he was all in pieces). I eventually had Bullet Man fixed by the Medic in the mid 1990's, so he stands strong once again today.

While working for the WexRex Collectibles shows, I added many more figures to my collection. My biggest mistake was made at one such show in Valley Forge, PA. The show turned out to be a disaster for the dealers, and they were lucky to make one sale that weekend. I was searching for an AT Diver to replace my busted original, when a dealer offered me an Air Force Joe in dress blues with a blue A.S. helmet for just $65. He said that he only wanted to make enough money to pay for his booth. I was still very new to collecting and I declined his generous offer. I remember that dealer saying "You're making a big mistake." Of course, he was right. Eventually, I did get two nice A.S. Joes for my collection, but I ended up paying a LOT more for them. Oh well, live and learn.

Today, I collect mainly on impulse. I'll stand in my "Joe Room" and determine what needs a little improvement, or what part is missing and needs to be added. Then I'll focus on finding that one specific thing. Most recently, it was a green camo field phone. What's next? I don't know. After I type this, I'm going back to my GIjOE room to decide. I hope you enjoy the photos. Go Joe!
