Hip Replacement for Vintage GIjOEs

Joe's not old enough to need a hip replacement, but this modification from collector Daniel Edwards will at least allow him to sit down. Here's how Daniel describes it:

"Many folks favor the traditional vintage style figure, but the main shortcoming is that he cannot sit down properly. This gave me an idea for a project. I replaced the ball joints on a 40th Joe with the hip joint from a modern CC Joe.

1. First, I took a 40th Joe and an old CC Joe apart , cutting the hip of the 40th as shown.

2. Then I whittled down (dremeled actually) the thighs from the CC body and inserted them INTO the hollow thighs of the 40th Joe (see photos below) with epoxy glue.

3. Next, since the elastic would no longer be connected at the thigh pins, I shortened the elastic about an inch, and attached it to the CC part. The next two photos show the detail.

4. Finally, I needed a tool to reconnect the hook to the next post through the chest cavity. As the saying goes, "Necessity is the mother of invention". So I created the tool you see below to accomplish the task. As I said, I used epoxy glue and pins to hold everything together. Is there a better glue for holding this type of plastic together? I don't know, but feel free to use whichever glue works best.

I'd like to see Hasbro, Cots, (or someone) come out with a replacement part for something like this. You could simply remove the hip and ball joints, and replace them with one piece attached to the legs with a thigh pin and attached to the neck post with the elastic."
