Welcome
to the Adventure Team collection of
I still build (rather well) 1/72 scale aircraft and 1/35 scale armor. I also enjoy shooting 1/1 firearms and engaging in 1/1 hiking and outdoor sports. Along with Gary Braswell, one of my best (and certainly, oldest) friends, (shown at right in tiger stripe camo), I've collected GIjOEs since 1966, with a few hiatuses along the way for college and neglect. That's me on the right, preparing to disarm Gary with my amazing KUNG FU GRIP! Anyway, it all began with just an Action Marine or Sailor (I forget). I lost most of my original military era Joes in a very unfortunate trade for a... cough... walkie talkie (I know, I know!). But I continued collecting during the original AT era (my greatest passion now) and still have quite a few original pieces from that period. Hoo-yeah! In later years, I learned that my mother-in-law (an avid doll collector in her own right) had branched out to collecting GIjOE as well, and this re-ignited my own "addiction" yet again. I now consider my collection nearly done as I only buy about one or two additional figures a year, primarily focusing on the new Action Man sets or more vintage GijOEs and Major Matt Masons. I never really got into Dragon or the other amazing new stuff, but I do have a few of the 21st Century sets and a lot of my own custom kitbashes. I also obsessively "live" in the online virtual world known as "Second Life" and blog about it for our local newspaper. As a result, I'm planning to design a series of Adventure Team uniforms for use with SL avatars! :) Finally, I've written an article about the GIjOE Sandbox newsgroup as well and its self-moderating, anarchic online community (if you are quoted, you already know this and have given your permission) which will appear soon (after the editors and publisher finish with it) as an anthology about style and communication online. Enjoy the pics. Best from the Lost City! --Joe Essid, aka AdvTeamMadman
