I saw the post on
the Trenches and thought I'd send in my info...
I've been a GIjOE fan since I ripped the
cello off of my first "Danger of the Depths" set back
in 1970. Although I grew out of toys in my teens, I never forgot
them and started hitting flea markets and garage sales hard in
the early nineties with the goal of building a complete collection
of GIjOE from 1964 through 1973. My collection is pretty close
to that goal now, and I'm thinking about moving on to the KFG
era. For me, to keep a set it must be very fine to near mint
and have no reproduction parts. I have re-celloed a few window
boxes, but I file that under "protecting the contents."
My display space was just finished last summer. I designed and
custom-built the shelving in the front attic room of our circa
1800s farm house. I opted for open displays because for me, GIjOE
just isn't as fun if you can t reach out and grab him! Of course,
that means taking more care to avoid dust, but it's worth the
effort to me.
I have many of the rare items, but my favorite came to me after
a visit to a buddy who sells toys. I was up looking at his collection
and he said, "I have something I think you'll like,"
as he dug into his closet. He pulled out a board and turned
it to me. I was staring at the ORIGINAL BOX ART from my favorite
childhood set, yes...the "Danger of the Depths!" WOW!
After I picked myself up off the floor, I started saving my pennies,
and eventually it would come to live with me. I hope it has found
a good home!
There are still a few "Holy Grail" items to find yet,
like a box for my race car and prototype cloth caps, but as it
stands, I'm pretty proud of what I've been able to put together.

Thanks for looking!

More
shots of Matt's great collection:

Beautiful sets, beautiful
uniforms, beautiful packaging. Hello? Hasbro? Remember when...?

Vintage vehicles and their
boxes fill one corner. OH MAMA! It's Christmastime again and
again and again...

Yes. All original. WOW! Matt,
you are one lucky dude, dude!

These Joes have clearly found
"a good home." Fantastic job on the shelving, Matt.

Most of us will never even
see these sets in person, much less own them. So...take a good
look!

Here's a nice closeup of
the "Special Value" Army Bivouac Set. Fantastic boxes
back then!

More perfection to drool
over. HA!

I repeat...Beautiful sets,
beautiful uniforms, beautiful packaging. Hello? Hasbro? Remember
when...?

It was fun to be a kid growing
up in the 70s!

OH YEAH...Can you say RARE?
These are scarcer than hound's teeth (whatever that means).

More wonderful stuff. And
check out the GIANT talking Joe. He even has a GIANT box to match.

Hmm...IRWIN vehicles weren't
so bad, now...were they? These two are sweet! Congratulations
on your great collection, Matt.
