Action Man Down Under

Here's my Story...

Action Man was my favorite toy as a child and he STILL is. I got my first Action Man back in 1972 (see photo of me with that exact figure at right). From then on, I was rather lucky. I had a Scorpion Tank, Red Devil, MP, Grenadier Guard, Pursuit Craft and a lot of other stuff. I've more recently become a big fan of his American cousin GIjOE, as well as some of the other 1:6th scale action figures out there.

We moved from the UK to New Zealand in the late 1970s. Action Man was available over there as well, although my favorite stuff was shipped overseas to us from my Granny back in Scotland. I think the last thing I received from her was the "Battle of Britain" uniform set.

We moved again in the early 1980s, this time to Australia, and Action Man was no longer being sold on any store shelves. My brother and I continued to play with our collection for a while, but ultimately it was all given away to charity (except for a couple of bits and pieces and my old, trusty RCMP Mountie).

I started collecting again in 1994, and became totally obsessed with the hobby until about 2005. During that time, my family and friends sought out stuff all over the place and I spent a LOT of my time online. On Internet News and Discussion groups relating to GIjOE and Action Man, I am often referred to as "Woozle" or "RobWoozle." (It's a long story, maybe another day.) Nowadays, I'm obsessed with becoming a "fitness machine" (see photo of me above left). ;-)

When we moved to our current house in 2006, all of my collection was packed into plastic crates, where it remains to this day. Apart from all of my cool toys, the best thing to come out of my Action Man/GIjOE "obsession" has been the great people I've met--some online and some in person. Not bad for someone living "all the way down" in Australia!
